Polymer-modified asphalt (PMA) is one of the most durable pavement materials available, the standard for high-performance bridges, highways, and airports. But the existing production model adds cost, delay, and performance uncertainty.
Conventional PMA can run 20–50% more expensive than standard asphalt, and in many markets it isn't available at all.
Specialized heating and transport requirements limit where PMA can be delivered, often degrading quality along the way.
Long supply chains and poor design-to-manufacturing execution undermine the long-term performance the material is meant to guarantee.
